We get to know Scout during the first few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout has a lot of trouble on her first day of school and she doesn't get along with her teacher, Miss Caroline. When Scout is upset about school, Atticus gives her some advice for dealing with the situation. He says, "...if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll really get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
Do you agree or disagree with Atticus' advice? Why? What can you tell about Atticus (as a father and as a person) by his statement? What other advice would you give Scout?

My definition of a hero is someone who has dramatically changed something or way of doing something or someone who has made a BIG change in any way that is positive. A hero characteristics should be: loyal, caring, kind, respectful, and most of all determined, they should always be determined to do something that is positive and something that will make an change for the best of things. And I truely dont think that the definition of an hero will change over time, but I do think that the different things that makes them an hero may change.

Heroes by Peter Nguyen
My definition of Hero is a person of courageous acts and responsibility. A Hero has a qualitys of a person who has responsibilitys and needs to stick with it, never abandon it. A Hero is never a quiter. The definition of Hero will change over time because not only are Super Heroes ment to save people, there are human beings who can also become heroes, and human beings are all different with characteristics.
heroes
My definition of a hero is someone I can look up to and be just like someday, someone I can follow in their footsteps. My heroes qualities and characteristics are that they are dependable, smart, successful and strong. I think this definition does change over time because most kids at a young age think of superman or spider man as their heroes but as you get older, you think of an actual person that's not in a movie or that's made up, like your guardians, etc...
Heroes
My definition of a hero is a person with a brave and courageous personality who has a unique talent of some kind that helps him/her achieve anything and everything that he/she has to encounter. In my opinion, qualities and characteristics a hero requires is a kind and giving personality who is patient and has a strong love of justice. He/she should be able to achieve things no normal human beings could achieve, and he/she has to be fearless in the face of any kind of danger. Over time, the world hero has been changed, for example, kids can think of a hero has someone inhuman in matter of strength, speed, intelligence, etc...
Today, adults' definition of a hero is someone who is very talented in what he does best and someone who has been through very harsh situation which he/she has encountered and conquer through time making that someone very experienced in what he does.

heroes
My definition of a hero is a soldier that wants to fight for our right to be free. I think of someone like that because my grandpa was a soldier, in world war two. There characteristics would be willing to help anyone at any time, wanting to do something good for the world. This definition could change over time. Only if something dramatic has happened in this persons life. Like seeing someone die, or seeing a house burn down.
Heroes
My definition of a hero is someone who is there for you, don't let you down. Someone that cares about the people not for fame, anyone that would risk there lives to save us. I would describe my hero thats nice won't back down from a fight trying to save us from danger like a soldier. A person who is not mean to the people of his country. Someone that tries to make a difference in the world. The definition don't change that much over time I'll say that the definition adds on like a few more lines to it over the time.

Heroes
My definition of a hero is someone who saves somebody. I think they are brave, strong, and usually good looking. A hero is usually really nice and is always ready to fight villains. My idea of a hero isn't only a guy or girl with a cape and superpowers but real people to. For example firemen, policemen, and people that could just lend a hand to help our earth. Those are only some normal people (without powers) I call heroes. They give a helping hand to our community and they do it without powers. ;)

Heroes by Peter Nguyen
I think a hero is Courageous. The ability of a Hero may have powers of good deeds that benefit the help of humanitarian. The definition of Hero may change over time because most Heroes loose theirself to a path of evil.
I think the defintion of a hero who acts using selflessness. To do a good deed without caring
about self preservation .No, I don't think the definition of hero changes over time because
heroes don't change so why should the definition also heroes are no t just superman and batman they can be regular eople like you and me . Your nextdoor neighbor can a hero but he can't fly or fight . Also to be a hero doesn't have to save anyone to be a hero , A hero can be a person making a good life their self and/or family

QUESTION 2
I think some people only care about their selves, but other people bare about people just as much as they care about there selves. People that care about other people and treat them nice have a lot more freinds, than people that don't care about people and only care about their selves. I think people choose to be mean because they think they will get more attention. But why would you want to be mean just to get attention.
Ransford was a good person, but when he started to care about animals more than he turned into a total different person. Zaroff doesn't care about anyone but his self. " Anyone that comes on my island I will kill, I don't care weather they die or not.

Question 2 Response
Most people naturally only care about themselves in the story. I think that way because Rainsford in the beginning only cared about hunting. He didn't care about the animals feelings. General Zaroff was worse than him, not only did he not care about animals but he believed that the weak should die while the strong live.
From my personal experience, some people around me naturally only care about themselves from my point of view, but not everybody. It all depends on how the person was taught by his/her parents. I think that people can change that part and that's usually the parents' work to do that. If the world learned from that, it would be a better place for everyone.

QUESTION NUMBER TWO RESPONSE
I think that in the world there is a portion of people who are good, and a portion of people who only think about themselves. I really don't think there is more of one than the other nowadays. Like in "Most Dangerous Game" Rainsford is good and General Zaroff is bad. In every story there is good and bad just like the world, for every good person there's a bad person. In the "Cask of Amontillado Fortunato was good, and even though in the story it says he insulted Montresor he might have not but to Montresor it might have been an insult. Montresor was the bad guy, he killed his friend even though he probably didn't get the facts straight but got overly jealous and it over came him.
Personal examples of good and evil are school, not everyone in school is nice. There is always going to be somebody in school that hates you. Let's say your a skater person, well a prep probably wouldn't like you. People in school will always get jealous, like if your with someone, someone else is probably jealous of you. I personally don't get jealous and i don't really kill people like in the stories, so i guess i consider myself a good person. I don't have any parts of my life where there are good people or bad but school. Usually my life is bad or my life is good.

~promt~In my life i think most people think most people care about there selves more than others. But certain people try to care about other people, or there feelings somtimes not most of the time. And some people just dont care about anything. But most pepole care and dont care equally. Thats what i think.<<
Answer to question no.2
I believe most people prefer to be good in real life. It is true that most people are selfish and only care about themselves, but in real life, a lot of those people do not know it at all. For a descent example think of Rainsford, he did'nt come to the conclusion that living things always aware that they are being hunted have feelings to. It actually did'nt come until at the end of the story where he said "now i know how the animals felt" (or something like that.) Until that time, he didn't realize the pressure that was driven again'st him while being hunted. From "the cask of Amontillado" Montesor as he had said in the very beginning of the story "The thousand injuries o Fortunado I had borne as best I could.) Until he was insulted and that had driven him off. During the time he was insulted, he was so blind with vengeance that he forgot his descency. This anger turned against Fortunado who recieved a painful death. Montresor did'nt know what he did was wrong, he could'nt take seeing Fortunado anymore with everything he had done, so he had his revenge.
From my own life, I have had so many past experiances with this kind of attitude that I don't even know where to begin. Once on a hot summer day, my friend had to go somewhere so I had to wait for him right outside his house...and I did. Then 5 hours later he came back saying "sorry I forget you were here." I took that very offensively. Then 2 seconds later he came out with a drink, when i asked "can I get one)? he replied (Sorry this is the last one). I had about all the crap I could take for one day so I left...funny thing though, that was one of the last times I had seen him.

MDG/COA
Do most people naturally want to be good? Or do most people only care about themselves?
Most people naturally want to be good... but on the other hand, a lot of people only care about themselves. Such as Rainsford, for example, he was only caring for himself when he hunted animals untill he knew what it was like to be hunted. Another example would be Montresor, he thought being good was getting revenge and killing Fortunato but instead he was really only caring for himself and not thinking of how Fortunato must feel about all this.
An example from my life would be that I was being selfish and was thinking so much about what I wanted for xmas that I forgot about getting other people gifts and had to do late night shopping two days before... but once i made that misteak I was sure not to make it again and not only did i remember the girfts from then on, I stopped being selfish and started thinking about others.

Most people natrually care about themselves because Rainsford didn't think about animals until he found out how it felt to be the hunted. Zaroff thought about himself because he was killing humans for his own pleasure.
I'm not going to lie i do think of myself before I think of others now because if you don't look out for yourself who is I had to find that out the hard way.
Question 2
Most people naturally want to be good. But some people think that they're doing good. But really they're doing bad. Like Rainsford he thought that he was doing the world a favor by killing animals like they have no feelings. But he experience what its like to be the animal being hunted. Because of that Rainsford is a even bettter good character because he had changed he under stands that animals have just as much feeling of being hunted.
There are more people that think they're doing good like Montresor from the cask of amontillado. Montresor thought he was doing good by getting revenge. because he tjought he herd Fortunato insult him. So! he decides to take him down to his palazzo tell all of his attendants to go home and don't come back until tommorrow. Then chains Fortunato in a far room in the cave then killed him. He was thinking he was doing good by killing him but he really didn't do good.
Question 2: Thoughts on Humanity
Question 2: Thoughts on Humanity By Peter Nguyen 5th period
There are two desicions that people make, naturally be good or care about themself. The answer is that people want to be good. In the story " The Most Dangerous Game", General Zarroff greets his people friendly. I think General Zarroff can be good at times during the story and also be evil. Rainsford, No doubt is a very selfish person that cares for himself since he
hunts animals and he never knew animals had feelings too.
In my personal life, I experience people choosing two choices, being good or only caring for yourself. I have naturally become selfish and cared for my ownself with out even noticing. People come up to me and tell " I haven't seen you talk and I heard you were gone for a while". I totally agree with it. After a good lesson from other people talking about how selfish I was, I would have chosen to be good and cared for others.

The Most Dangerous Game & Cask of Amontillado
Do most people naturally want to be good? Or do most people only care about themselves?
I think most people care about themselves because in The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford at first thought about hunting as being fun and the animals getting shot and them having no feelings. But then it all turned around when General Zaroff hunted Rainsford and he knew how the anmals felt. Then in The Cask of Amontillado when Montresor was killing Fortunato he was thinking about all he wanting was revenge and he got it but didnt want to kill him. Because when this all started they were good friends and didnt think about his friend and what he was going to do.
Personal examples from my life are like when i was little i would have friends come over, and i only cared about myself and one day my friends came over and we were all having a goo time and playing games and i was the only one playing while my friends watched. Oh and did they get mad. So whenever they got to play i knew how it felt i didnt touch that controller for a long time. Then at times i wanted to be good and help out with stuff but when my mom asks for stuff to be done and i dont do it she gets mad and doesnt let me do anything or she doesnt do stuff for me.
